Doppler Effect: New Work by Marty Nash
I titled this exhibition Doppler Effect becausethe images reminded me of the deep reds and bright oranges of weather maps, and the colors and shapes moving across a monitor of an ultrasound (…an unborn fetus or beating heart.) I also saw it as a metaphor for perception. The work's sense shifts based on one’s perspective when approaching, as with sound waves. Meaning is mitigated by time—literally and historically, as one looks at what is before them--either quickly and up close or slowly and from a distance.
