Virtual Artists’ Talk

Form + Content Gallery presents Together/Apart, the second group exhibition of work in a variety of media mounted this fall by gallery members and interns. At this confusing – confounding – exhilarating point in time, art seeks to shed some light on the sacred and the profane, the past and the future, our local community and the wider world. Ellie Kingsbury’s digital prints focus powerfully on the words of social justice and outrage. Kristen Lowe’s quietly insistent diptych recontextualizes a famous portrait from almost a century ago. Mike Marks explores the relationship between natural and altered landscapes in his complex print, questioning the marks we leave on the land itself. In her series of mixed media pieces, Kathryn Nobbe investigates the vulnerability of living, interacting organisms and their strategies to defend themselves and survive. Patricia Olson presents a kind of voters’ guide, translating stereotypical adjectives often used to disparage female politicians in both banners and take-away postcards. Michal Sagar integrates European classical sculpture with images of animal wildness to strike a new balance in her exquisitely rendered drawings. Sandra Menefee Taylor brings together dirt and lace in her highly textured experimental drawings, reminding us of our dependence on the earth.
