Rachel Kirchgasler
A recent graduate from Temple University in Philadelphia, Rachel Kirchgasler received her Masters degree in Art History from the Tyler School of Art where she concentrated her studies primarily in the fields of nineteenth and twentieth century art, both European and American. Before traveling to the east coast, Rachel, a Minnesota native, spent the last few years working toward her Bachelor’s degree, also in Art History and a minor in English, at the University of Minnesota, Duluth. While studying in Duluth, Rachel had the opportunity to study abroad, choosing Florence, Italy as the place where she would make her home for a few months in the spring of 2006. While this experience not only opened her eyes to the world and her own place in it, it also cemented her passion for art and allowed her to explore her studies in a beautiful and art historically rich environment. Currently, Rachel has moved back to Minnesota and is exploring options for employment in museum and gallery settings and has taken two internships in order to gain some first hand experience toward those goals.
"At Form + Content Gallery they describe their internship as “comprehensive.” This word is one of the things that caught my attention in my search for meaningful and fulfilling internships. As a recent graduate with my M.A. in art history my own career goals have lead me to museum and gallery fields where I hope to explore opportunities in curating and exhibition design. The idea of a “comprehensive internship” is exactly what I hope to gain from my time at F+C Gallery this fall. I hope that at the end of this experience I will have a better understanding of how galleries are run (specifically a “co-op” gallery like F+C that is partially owned by the artists themselves), what specific duties are involved in maintaining a gallery and how the exhibition process is conducted, while also “getting my hands dirty” by getting involved in the installation and de-installation of various shows and exhibitions. I hope that the time and connections that I make here will help me to better understand my own strengths and weaknesses in the field, while still paving the way toward completing my own goals." --Rachel Kirchgasler
